Evaluating and Identifying Online Resources

This post is late because I did not read my assignment all the way through and thought I was finished with last week’s assignments when I was not. I apologize to anyone who tried to get to my blog only to leave empty-handed!

This week’s work was on how the brain works and how people think and problem solve, what types of processes are used and to really delve into how people think affects the way they learn. The assignment was to find two blogs that covers those types of topics.

The first blog that I found is:

http://beatricebenne.com/2009/11/12/don%e2%80%99t-fix-problems-%e2%80%9cdissolve%e2%80%9d-them/

It was interesting because it focused on a different way to approach problem solving, by “dissolving”, an idea that Russell Ackoff was known for. The basic idea is to make sure that all of the stakeholders have a piece of the decisions that are made. There are several other things that he also pointed out, such as challenging preexisting assumptions and solving root causes of problems rather than the symptoms.
The second blog that I found is:
http://www.whatmakesthemclick.net/
This blog is interesting because the entire blog is devoted to the way people think. Susan Weinschenk, Ph.D., the author of this blog, relates psychology to how people think and behave. She has some interesting points especially in the blog entry entitled, “You Reconstruct Your Memories.” She relates to how some memories can thought of as movie clips and also how people can mix up different events in their lives.
That is it for week 2!

Week One Application

This week's application assignment has been pretty fun, I am going to enjoy doing this blog. This week's assignment was to create a blog and find other blogs that relate to course design and technology. The three that are listed below all seem to have some great resources and ideas that we should be able to use throughout our course. The three that I found were simply by doing a search on Google.

The first blog I found belongs to Patty Papers. She is a math teacher who has taught at all junior high and high school math levels. Her blog focuses on integrating interactive technology in the classroom. She has won several awards to help expand the ways that students use interactive technology in the classroom. Her site can be found at: http://pattyoflynn.edublogs.org . One interesting page you should look at when you click on this link is her page on a sustainable classroom in which she blogs about “mathcasts” which uses screen recording software to create movies.

Another great blog that I found on the Adobe website belongs to Rufus Deucheler. In his own words found on http://www.youtube.com/rufusdeuchler Rufus Deucheler states:

I am a Worldwide Evangelist for Creative Solutions at Adobe Systems. A graduate of the Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Communication Design, I have been active as a corporate and editorial designer across Europe since 1992, and have been teaching graphic design since 1995. Now, I travel the globe sharing my love for Adobe software and showing users how to best use it in their workflows.

His blog can be found at http://blogs.adobe.com/rufus/ . I thought that this would be a great resource for all of us just learning how to use the Adobe products that we need to use for class.

This next blog is interesting because it lists all of the current news on technology. As an instructional designer it is always going to be important to stay up-to-date on information dealing with new technologies. Every time a new technology comes out, there will be a need for someone to be the expert in that technology in order to design courses and teach others. You can go to http://glanceworld.com and see the technology news and new releases, as well as information about web design and web development. It seems like this blog stays current so I think it will be a good resource to use throughout this course.

I have asked permission from the three blogs that I have listed above to link to their sites. If one of these sites is yours and you would like me to remove your information, please email me and I will remove you.

Learning Theories and Instruction

This blog is a blog that is being created to go along with a class that I am taking in a MS in Course Design and Technology. This is the second course I am taking and the very first project is to create a blog. Already learning something new, I decided to create this blog today and get it started so that I can play around with it before I have to submit the assignment. I have played with blogs in SharePoint before, but have never had the motivation to create my own blog, as my life is pretty standard and I never felt the need to share my thoughts about my day. However, now that I have motivation and topics to blog about, I think this is going to be fun!

Thanks for visiting this blog and feel free to join me any time!
